3 Simple Ways to Boost Your Energy

Get your energy high with these steps…

It’s that time of the year again, most commonly known as “cabin fever“, the “winter blahs“, when you have about enough energy to move a snail shell if you can even muster that!

The days have been long, and in many parts of the northern hemisphere, this has been one of the longest and coldest winters in history. Add to short days due to lack of daylight, which are now mercifully getting longer, and being inside all of the time, many people also suffer from some of the qualities of seasonal affective disorder (S.A.D.).

Are you looking for something that will help increase your energy and give you that little extra push that you need?

Then read on…

First off, let’s start out with perhaps the best 2 things not to do – increase caffeine consumption (coffee, tea or energy drinks) or increase the amount of sugar you are consuming to increase feeling a “high“.

The problem with using caffeine or sugar to try and increase energy is that it will give you a rush, actually a false energy rush, but when it wears off you usually feel like you are “crashing” or even worse than you felt before. When you get to feeling like that, you start using more and all you are doing is perpetuating the “crash” feeling.

If you can, limit your intake of caffeine to one or maybe two cups of coffee or tea per day, and try to eliminate processed sugars from your diet. Also, energy drinks may also cause some people more harm than good in creating increases in blood pressure and heart rates.

Natural is the best way to go whenever you are trying to increase energy and it literally is a three part process.

First off, try getting enough rest. The average person requires 7-8 hours sleep per night, especially in the winter months. Try to get to bed at a reasonable hour, and also try avoid eating after 8 pm as well as not drinking anything containing caffeine after 6 pm. If you struggle with insomnia, this could be perpetuating it. Also, if you find that you are not getting enough sleep, then try 30-40 power naps in the afternoon.

Proper nutrition is the best source of energy.

Eating as much vegetables a day is where it is at, especially leafy green ones like spinach, high in iron which is great for energy. Also, get your sugars the natural way, using fresh fruits. If you have a mixer like the “Nutribullet” you can mix fruits and vegetables together to make smoothies and the energy you get is pure, lasting and amazing! A hand full of walnuts along with 30 grams of protein in the morning really adds a lot to your energy stores.

Finally, you need to get physical! The most popular way to feel lethargic and not have energy is just simply sitting around doing nothing.

Going for short walks is the best way to re-energize quickly. If you exercise on a daily basis then this will really increase the amount of energy you have.
